Welcome to the homepage for The MOSS Show. The MOSS Show is a podcast about Microsoft SharePoint recorded and produced by Hilton Giesenow. It covers both Windows SharePoint Services (WSS) as well as Microsoft Office SharePoint Server (MOSS) topics. In time, the show will hopefully become weekly, but for now it’s ad hoc.

The concepts and value from Business Intelligence continues to grow within the organisation. At the same time, Microsoft’s BI tools increasingly target the enterprise and the information worker, especially with the exciting new capabilities in the 2010 wave of products. With components like Performance Point now being 100% integrated with SharePoint, we need to learn more about what BI entails and how to unlock its value. In this interview, Pej Javaheri from the Microsoft SharePoint team gives us a basic introduction to the history and background of Business Intelligence, culminating in an overview of the 2010 releases.
Knock knock – is anyone still there? Is Hilton still breathing? Whew, there’s been a long delay since the last episode! I’ve been busy with my actual day time job (got to do that too, you know), dealing with 6 (!) different guests postponing (yes, you know who you are!) as well as hitting a couple of major deadlines for some training material (see the video links below). Thankfully, the engine room is heating up again though, and we’ve got 2 new shows in the editing room already and more lined up! Stay tuned, more great shows coming soon!
One of the cool new developer features in SharePoint 2010 is LINQ To SharePoint, which gives us the ability to write LINQ queries against SharePoint Lists and Libraries, bypassing the need to manually create CAML queries by hand and making for more readable and more maintainable code. However, this is in fact not the first implementation of a ‘LINQ To SharePoint’ provider – one exists that predates this 2010 release and was written by a (then) non-Microsoft employee and MVP Bart de Smet.
May 12 2010 saw the worldwide launch of SharePoint 2010. In this special launch-edition episode of the show, we meet up with a whole bunch of SharePoint MVPs and product team members to catch a take on their favourite features in this new version.
Microsoft SQL Server is the database engine that underpins SharePoint, in many ways serving as the heart of the platform. With this is mind, it definitely bears understanding this critical component a little more, especially when it comes to topics like manageability, performance and backup and recovery. In this episode we jump right into the deep end with noted SQL Server experts Paul Randal & Kimberly Tripp.
